Third round of the US Open Cup has MLS seeing red

July 2, 2008

So the third round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup was completed over the weekend it was quite the upset special.  I don’t know what to think about the MLS teams going down so early.  Cleary the US Open Cup is not anything compared to the FA Cup but it is our nations national championship.  Shouldn’t the MLS make a better showing?

Is it because they are not playing their starters?

Let’s compare the rosters of the Red Bulls vs. Crystal Palace game with the roster from the previous MLS match (vs Chivas). Bold players played in both matches.

6/29 vs Chivas

Jon Conway
Hunter Freeman
Jeff Parke
Andrew Boyens
Kevin Goldthwaite
Carlos Mendes
Dane Richards
Seth Stammler (Luke Sassano 80)
Dave van den Bergh
Sinisa Ubiparipovic (Mike Magee 60)
John Wolyniec (Oscar Echeverry 54)

7/01 vs Crystal Palace Baltimore

Zach Thornton
Chris Leitch (Sinisa Ubiparipovic 46)
Kevin Goldthwaite
Carlos Mendes
Jeff Parke
John Gilkerson (Andrew Boyens 46)
Luke Sassano
Gordon Kljestan (John Wolyniec 46)
Mike Magee
Danleigh Borman (David Roth 63)
Chris Megaloudis

Cleary the MLS is not taking the US Open Cup very seriously….but, when you are traveling to a stadium that seats 2,000……how can you.  All that this shows is that it is a really great time to be a soccer fan in the US.  No, the MLS is not the best league in the world.  It is not even sniffing the top 10.  However, I bet in 10 – 20 years time you won’t we able to see top flight soccer in a US Open Cup match with just 1,653 other people.

Stay tuned for the quarterfinals….it’s heating up now!

Sargas Project

June 20, 2008

So the new software should be complete and in Beta soon.  It has been a long and very laborious process with several contributers pitching in over the last several years.  Thank you to everyone who has participated.  We think that this new software will assist teams and leagues in managing their affairs, members, events and more like never before.

I will be setting up a new blog soon that will be devoted solely to the sargas project.  Stay tuned.

Austin Soccer Photos

June 20, 2008

So I have tons of photos from the World Cup 2006, Dallas Cups, AMSA games, Austin Aztex games and more.  I have always wanted to share these photos but never had the time to do so.  I used to have a personal site that I used from my family but I never had the time to build the features that I wanted.  I have scrapped the old site and set up a Flickr group for everyone to contribute to.  Check it out:
